February – the Perfect time for Flower Meanings & Symbolism

Flowers mean something different to all of us, even more so – to the person who is giving them.  For any reason - a ‘Flower can be given.  “Love, Happy, Pissed Off, Sad, Hello, Good-bye…you get the picture.”  Meanings and Symbolism for each flower is not something most of us – research., we simply just pick one we like or the color…etc.   Others still believe in the meaning and implication of every single flower included in an arrangement.  Some of these meanings were brought to us  from tradition, religion and experience, while the origins of others remain a mystery.   My Sister loved purple – its was her color choice for everything.  When she passed away we went with purple.  The decision was more personal than meaning.

Nevertheless, these beliefs and customs are still practiced even today.  So, when sending or giving someone ’Flowers, it is best to know your intentions and the corresponding flowers that, in turn, symbolize or express those sentiments.  For the Month of February – we decided to pick the most common – popular ‘Flowers people choose and share the meanings with you.

Let’s begin with the ‘Carnation

Though they have many colors, in general the ‘Carnation represents Fascination, distinction and love.  Colors that  people seem to choose most are:

RED:  Deep romantic love, passion.  ‘My heart aches for you’

PINK:  A woman’s love, a mother’s love.  “I’ll never forget you.”  “Always on my mind.”

YELLOW:  Rejection, disdain.  “You have disappointed me.”

PURPLE:  Whimsical, changeable, unreliability.

BLUE:  Tranquility, truth and spirituality.  Devotion to one another.

WHITE:  Sweet and lovely, innocence, pure love .  Faithfulness.

“Remember the ‘Card…you can choose the color YOU like and make it YOUR reason / meaning  - then, write your feelings in the card.”
